My family has always turned to more natural forms of medicine and food. My mom used homeopathy throughout our childhood, bought organic foods whenever possible, and was very strict about sugar consumption. (Although I was more restricted than my sister 10 years later.) For years we have also seen a chiropractor for skeletal adjustments.
But for most of this time we had NO idea that essential oils had medicinal and therapeutic benefits. I was aware that they smelled good and could be used in homemade bath and body products. But I didn’t know that they could be used to replace medications!
In September, my mom discovered a therapeutic brand of essential oils. She attended a free class on how to make over your medicine cabinet using natural solutions. The commonsense, simple ideas presented in the class were very appealing and she later shared them with me. I became just as excited as she was, and we both embarked on this new essential oil journey.
Now, one can frequently hear the phrases passionately spoken in our house “There’s an oil for that!” or “Did you try such-and-such oil for that?” My 16-year-old sister Abby sometimes laughs at my passion (even though she has our mom apply oils on her every night!). But the reason for my passion? Because THEY WORK. Here are just a few of the ways that these amazing essential oils have positively impacted our lives:
Seasonal discomfort – My mom and I have chronic seasonal issues. At the beginning of the turn of the season, we started taking lemon, lavender, and peppermint together in a capsule. I’ve taken allergy drugs almost daily for over 10 years, and last year I even tried immunotherapy (allergy shots). The latter worked somewhat, but not enough to stave off my problems entirely. However, lavender, lemon, and peppermint have been miracle workers!
Upper-respiratory issues – My brother Zachary is susceptible to head colds and coughs that hang on for weeks. One Friday, he started feeling badly at work. My mom helped him using the Respiratory blend by rubbing it on his chest and using it in the diffuser overnight. By Monday morning he was feeling healthy again, and he did not have that residual cough!
Muscle soreness – Abby practices the violin three hours a day, which inevitably produces shoulder and neck pain. The Soothing blend lotion rub is one of the oils that my mom uses on her daily. It has also worked wonderfully at the gym when it felt like I had messed up a muscle from lifting weights.
Chronic pain – I have experienced chronic aches and joint pain for longer than I realized. I had forgotten what it was like to be pain-free – until now. I attribute the great reduction of chronic pain to the vital supplement pack. It is a trio of vitamins and supplements, including essential oils. Frankincense, one of the most precious oils and strongly anti-inflammatory, is contained in the essential fatty acid complex.
Memory and energy – When I told Mark about the ingredients and benefits I was experiencing from the vital supplement pack, he wanted to try it, too. So essential oils went on deployment! After taking the supplements for about a month, he reported more energy, more mental clarity, faster thinking, AND improved sleep! (And getting better sleep when dealing with PTSD, TBI, and deployment stress is close to miraculous.) He requested that another pack be waiting for him upon his return home. My brain fog and chronic fatigue have also disappeared.
